Cochabamba Competition Team

Built for athleteswho want to compete.

Cochabamba’s Competition Team is our dedicated program for athletes who want to pursue grappling beyond recreational training.

Our competitors train in an environment built around live problem-solving, high-volume grappling, competition preparation, film study, and consistent exposure to challenging training partners.

We don’t measure development by how many techniques an athlete can memorize.

We develop grapplers who can solve problems against people actively trying to stop them.

By tryout

This isn’t anopen-enrollment class.

The Cochabamba Competition Team is a performance-focused training environment.

Athletes interested in joining the program are evaluated through a tryout period so our coaching staff can assess their experience, work ethic, competitiveness, ability to train safely, and fit within the room.

You don’t need to already be an elite competitor.

You need to want to become one.

The training

Training built around competition.

Competition training

Tuesday • Wednesday • Thursday

4:45 PM to 6:30 PM

Dedicated competition training separate from our general program.

  1. 01

    Constraints-led development

Our training is built around live problems, objectives, resistance, and decision-making rather than repetitive drilling.

Athletes learn to recognize problems, find solutions, and adapt those solutions against opponents who are actively resisting them.

  2. 02

    Film review & athlete development

Competition footage is reviewed to identify patterns, strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for development.

What we discover through competition helps shape what happens next in the training room.

  3. 03

    Competition preparation

Training intensity, strategy, pacing, rulesets, and preparation are adjusted as athletes approach major events.

We want our competitors prepared not only technically, but for the actual environment and demands of competition.

The training environment

More rounds. More problems.More opportunities to adapt.

Our athletes regularly train alongside competitors pursuing the same goals.

The competition room is designed to create difficult situations, not protect athletes from them.

Athletes are expected to struggle, problem-solve, adapt, and become increasingly comfortable performing under pressure.

The goal isn’t to make training easy.

The goal is to make competition familiar.

Competition coaching

Brian Guevara

Founder & Head Competition Coach

Brian leads Cochabamba’s Competition Team and oversees the development of its competitive athletes.

His approach centers around creating intelligent, adaptable grapplers through live training, problem-solving, and carefully designed training environments.

Rather than building athletes around predetermined sequences, Brian focuses on helping competitors develop their own ability to recognize opportunities, make decisions under resistance, and find solutions against different opponents.

The goal extends beyond winning the next tournament.

It is to build competitors capable of continuing to evolve as the level of competition increases.

Meet our other coaches

Beyond local

We don’t just compete locally.

Local tournaments are an important part of our development process.

They give athletes opportunities to gain experience, test their skills, make mistakes, learn how to perform under pressure, and prepare for increasingly difficult competition.

But local competition isn’t where the pathway ends.

Cochabamba actively pursues competition on larger stages, including IBJJF tournaments, ADCC events, and UFC BJJ opportunities.

Our team has already traveled throughout the United States and internationally for competition, and we intend to continue expanding that presence.

For athletes who want to seriously pursue competitive grappling, our goal is to provide a pathway from their first local tournaments to some of the largest stages available in the sport.

Local competition builds experience.

The bigger stages are where we intend to make a name.

Your competition resume

Build your competition resume.

For athletes who want to carve out a name for themselves in grappling, simply training isn’t enough.

You have to compete. You have to perform. And eventually, you have to do it on stages that matter.

The Cochabamba Competition Team is built to help serious athletes progressively develop the experience, competition resume, and ability necessary to pursue larger opportunities.

  1. Stage 01

    Local & regional competition

Build experience. Compete frequently. Learn to handle pressure and unfamiliar opponents.

  2. Stage 02

    Major tournament circuits

Travel and compete at established events including IBJJF and ADCC competitions, testing yourself against deeper and increasingly accomplished fields.

  3. Stage 03

    National & international competition

As athletes develop, the competition schedule expands.

Cochabamba is committed to traveling throughout the United States, and internationally when the opportunity demands it, to find the level of competition our athletes need.

  4. Stage 04

    The big stages

For athletes pursuing an elite competitive career, the long-term objective is to develop toward opportunities such as:

    • ADCC World Championship
    • IBJJF Pan Championships & Major Championships
    • UFC BJJ Events
    • Premier Professional Grappling Opportunities

We aren’t interested in collecting easy medals.

We’re interested in developing athletes capable of performing when the competition matters most.

Ambition, taken seriously

For athletes who want more.

Not every athlete needs to make grappling their life.

Our Competition Team exists for the ones who want to see how far they can take it.

For those athletes, Cochabamba takes that ambition seriously.

We want to help our competitors accumulate meaningful experience, build legitimate competition resumes, develop recognition within the grappling community, and eventually put themselves in position for opportunities beyond the tournaments available to them today.

There are no shortcuts to that.

It means competing locally when experience is needed.

Traveling when stronger competition is needed.

And stepping onto increasingly larger stages as the athlete becomes ready for them.

The objective isn’t simply to enter major tournaments.

It’s to arrive prepared to make an impact.

Competition weekends

We travel as a team.

Competition isn’t only what happens when the referee starts the match.

Cochabamba provides coaching and cornering at designated events and continues to build the infrastructure necessary to support our athletes throughout competition weekends.

Our competitors travel together, warm up together, support one another, compete under the same banner, and have their coaches there when it’s time to perform.

Whether it’s a local tournament a few miles from home, an IBJJF event across the country, or eventually an international competition, the expectation remains the same:

Show up prepared. Represent the team. Perform.
