No. 06 · House Dracarys

House Dracarys.

The dragons of Cochabamba. Every dragon carries a bloodline. Every name carries a meaning. Every personality tells a story.

No. 06.a · More than mascots

Cochabamba was never built to feel like just another martial arts academy. We wanted a place with personality, culture and community, somewhere our students could train hard, grow up together, and genuinely enjoy being. Over time, the dragons became part of that. Students stop by the enclosures before and after class, learn the names, pick their favorites. They aren't here because every academy needs a mascot. They're here because they're part of ours.

Distinct Dragons (Charly Chung)

The name

Named for Marine Admiral Aokiji (Kuzan) of One Piece, wielder of the Ice-Ice Fruit and a character synonymous with the cold.

His Zero genetics give him a clean, patternless look, and the Hypo trait strips the dark pigment away even further. The result is an almost frozen-white dragon worthy of the name.

The personality

For someone named after ice, Aokiji might be the warmest dragon in the House.

He is completely at ease being handled and is one of our best dragons for meeting people. He loves being picked up, hanging out, and being part of whatever is happening around him.

In the House

Aokiji absolutely loves Rukia. Whenever he gets the chance, he heads straight for her enclosure to say hello.

Apparently even an ice dragon has a soft spot.

The name

Named for Rukia Kuchiki of Bleach, known for her strength, composure and ice-based abilities. Her Bankai, Hakka no Togame, turns extreme cold into something beautiful and dangerous.

Like Aokiji she is a Hypo Zero, which gave House Dracarys its original pair of snow-white dragons. Pale as ice. Fierce by nature.

The personality

Don't let the white scales fool you. Rukia is fierce. She knows exactly what she wants, and most of the time she wants food.

Bother the Ice Queen when she's not in the mood and you may witness the Pancake: she flattens herself into an impressively wide bearded-dragon pancake. The wider the pancake, the stronger the warning. Proceed accordingly.

In the House

Aokiji visits constantly. Usually she brushes him off. But after enough visits we've learned something about our Ice Queen: deep down, she accepts him.

She just isn't going to let Aokiji know that.

Makima, bearded dragon

Makima

The Diva of House Dracarys

"The Diva"

Place in the House
Third of the House. Makima doesn't simply live in House Dracarys. As far as she's concerned, House Dracarys lives around Makima.

Tooth and Scale (Kai)

The name

Named for Makima of Chainsaw Man, a character known for beauty, confidence, intelligence, and the ability to run everyone around her. Our Makima has no supernatural powers, but try telling Hiei that.

As a Full Paradox she carries the unpredictable patches and coloration that make Paradox dragons so distinctive. No two express themselves the same way, and in her case, being ordinary was never an option.

The personality

Makima is a diva. Not an angry diva. Not a difficult diva. Just a dragon who has decided that certain things should simply be done for her.

Food? Hand-fed, please. Attention? Obviously. Pictures? She's already posing.

She rarely makes a fuss. She simply waits for everyone else to understand how things are supposed to work. And somehow, it usually works.

In the House

Every diva needs someone to torment, and Makima has Hiei. A look, a movement, a little showing off from across the way, and suddenly Hiei is answering with those unmistakable head bobs.

She knows it. He knows it. And she keeps doing it anyway.

The name

Named for Hiei of Yu Yu Hakusho, the small but overwhelming demon known for speed, confidence and a dark appearance. The resemblance is almost perfect.

Bold patterning over deep, dark coloration, and eyes so dark that against his patterns he can look like a character somebody designed. Until he moves.

The personality

Active, confident and dominant. Hiei is constantly moving, exploring and paying attention to everything happening around him.

He handles his food like a gentleman: eats extremely well, stays active, and doesn't need much convincing when dinner arrives.

In the House

He may be the dominant male, but Makima has discovered exactly how to push his buttons. For a dragon who carries himself like one of the toughest members of the House, she has a remarkable ability to drive him absolutely crazy.

No. 06.c · The House grows

Aokiji was the first. Then came Rukia.

Makima and Hiei followed. Each brought a different bloodline, a different appearance and an entirely different personality into the House. And just like Cochabamba itself, House Dracarys continues to grow.

No. 06.d · How to say hello

Five rules.Same as on the mat.

  1. 01

    Ask a coach first.

The dragons are out at set times. A coach will bring one over if it's a good moment for them.

  2. 02

    Slow hands, from the front.

Come in low and from the side. A hand coming from above looks like a hawk to them.

  3. 03

    Two fingers along the back.

Gentle strokes with the scales, not against them. Skip the head, the beard, and the tail.

  4. 04

    No tapping the glass.

It's loud in there. Wave instead.

  5. 05

    Wash your hands after.

Before you get back on the mat, and definitely before snacks.

No. 06.e · Visit the House

If you're visiting for the first time, don't be surprised if you hear a student talking about Aokiji, Rukia, Makima or Hiei like you've somehow missed four members of the team. You'll understand soon enough. Come train. Meet the community. And say hello to the dragons.
